 The article on the basis of a wide range of sources covers the history of one of the most rich and numerous merchant dynasties of Yeniseisk – the Dementievs, who were the only merchant family to have remained within the local merchantry for a century and a half: from the mid-XVIII to the early XX century.

The article views high mobility and constant rotation of the officials as a phenomenon of imperial government apparatus.

 The published fragment of autobiographical reminiscences of Vasiliy Ivanovich Ermolenko (1893-1970) combines the features of personal source and ego-document. The author worked in statistical department in Altai region during 1920s–1950s, and wrote his memoirs in the late 1960s, when he was enjoying his retirement in Novosibirsk.
