From the Editor
The thematic issue of the journal brings together researchers whose interests include studying the traditional spiritual culture of Russia over a wide time range: from the late Middle Ages to the Modern Age. Using various research methods of special historical and philological disciplines, the authors of this issue introduce and analyze journalistic and chronicle works of scribes of Ancient Russia, collections and polemical works of old believers of different agreements, messages of Siberian hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church of the 17th and 20th centuries, scientific materials of participants of academic expeditions of the 18th century, memoirs about Siberia.

Skomorokhs were among unique phenomena of Russia culture which appeared during the pre-Christian period and had a time of trial during the Christianization of Rus. Much literary evidence on dancing, games and street performance in the essays of XV–XVI cc. are connected with strong criticism expressed by church writers.

The Report of Hustynja Chronicle of 17th Century on the Struggle For Principality of Halych in the late 12th – First Third of 13th Century
The article examines how the events of the late 12th – first third of the 13th century were reflected in the Hustynja Chronicle composed in Left-Bank Ukraine in the 17th century. Twice in this time, after the death of Yaroslav Osmomysl in 1187 and the defeat of Roman Mstyslavych in 1205 the rivalry between the Russian princes-Rurikides, Polish and Hungarian kings for the throne of Halych escalated.

To the Study of the History of the Councils of 1666 and 1666–1667
The article states that in the Russian Church in the XVI–XVII centuries there was the same process of confessionalisation as in other European countries. Patriarch Filaret played a special role in it, when at the Council of 1620 the baptism by immersion was recognized as the only correct one and the features that distinguished Moscow Orthodoxy from both Catholics and other churches were formulated.

The author of the memoirs was a man of low military rank, he became a general many years later, on the eve of creating the text.
