Touching upon the term “Capitalist Russia” (for many historians related to ideological clichés of the Soviet time) the author explains that it is used in this case not as a characteristic of the epoch but as its name free of ideology and not restricted to social an economic relations.

The Early Industrial Stage of the Russian Urban Space Development (on the Materials of Tomsk Region)
The author propounds a theoretical framework for the Russian urban space development throughout Russia’s entire history. While cities were turning from fortified places into centers of high-tech industry and trade, the structure of urban space also changed. The author formulates his own definition of urban space and proposes four stages of its evolution: traditional, regular, early industrial and industrial.

Shrewd Charity: Petr Makushin, Ivan Sytin and Rural Libraries in the Tomsk Governorate in the Early 20th Century
In 1916, two booksellers and publishers, two enlighteners Ivan D. Sytin and Petr I. Makushin were congratulated by the whole country on the 50th anniversary of their publishing and social activity. Their fates largely overlapped, their business and warm friendship persisted for many years. Sytin’s publications were widely distributed in the Tomsk province.

This article is based on materials of inspections of the marching companies intended for departure to the battle-front that had completed a course of training in the depot battalions of the Omsk military district. As can be seen from the orders to the battalions, brigades and the military district, the marching companies varied significantly in terms of their qualification.

The article analyzes retrospectively the practice of interaction and relationships between Russian archives and researchers over the past two decades. The basis of the Oriental collection in the Tomsk Regional Museum is a collection assembled by the military orientalist Mikhail Arkadyevich Polumordvinov, who served in Manchuria in 1903–1915. There he collected originals of daily life and cult, associated with peoples of Asia, and a photo collection with views of Manchuria and Mongolia.

Rural Society Against Rural Inhabitants: Episodes of Struggle in the County Courts at the Beginning of the 20th Century (Tulinskoye County, Barnaul District, Tomsk Province)
