The Journal welcomes articles from well-known scholars and young researchers from all over the world. We greatly value scientific schools, however, status or reference letters are not relevant for publication of an article.
Decision to publish an article depends mainly on its quality.
Novelty of the Article and Novelty of the Research
What kind of materials can be published in the Journal?
First of all, “traditional” research articles written on new historical sources and introducing into scientific use new facts, thus helping us better understand historical past.
Section “Person in History” deals with materials on lives and activities of both outstanding and ordinary (at first sight), unremarkable people.
“Open Archives” is a section which introduces for scientific use important documents.
Section “In First Person” publishes ego-texts.
Section “Debating Past” welcomes articles raising contentious and controversial issues.
“Historian Workshop” invites to discuss “secrets of craft”.
“Digital Technologies”- for the articles dealing with technological progress in historical studies.
“Scientific Life” - for conference reports.
“World of Books” - a section where authors can tell about their published books clarifying their main ideas.
The heading “Problems of pedagogy” is intended to place materials on the history of both domestic and foreign pedagogical thought, didactic and methodological materials to help teachers of secondary and higher schools.
If you aren't quite sure which section is suitable for your article, don't worry; we will find the solution that best answers your needs.
1. Each submitted article goes to one of our executive editors. The executive editor can reject the article himself or give it to a reviewer. Reviewers are chosen from among the specialists who have had publications on the submitted article's topic.
2. Upon receipt of the reviewer's written response the executive editor can: accept the article for publication; return it to the author for further refinement, reject it or request the opinion of another reviewer.
3. Authors receive copies of reviews or reasoned refusal to publish the article.
4. Author is notified promptly of the receipt of his article while the notification of the article's acceptance for publication must be sent to him within 6 months.
5. Author can express his objections to the executive editor regarding any critical comments made about his article. After considering these objections the executive editor takes a decision which is not subject to appeal.
6. Reviews are kept in the editorial office for at least 5 years.
7. In the case of a request from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation the editorial office commits to providing copies of the reviews to the Ministry.
Each issue includes articles corresponding to a theme which is defined very broadly. If your article's subject matter conforms to any of the themes of the Journal's forthcoming issues, it has more chances to be published soon.
Novelty of the Article and Novelty of the Research
By submitting his article to the Journal the author confirms that this article is not being considered for publication in any other Journal or collected works. He guarantees that after submitting his article to another journal he received a rejection slip and can present it to the Editorial Board of “Historical Courier” if necessary.
The research findings must be novel, i.e. proposing new ideas or facts.
We expect articles to be written in a good literary language. An abundance of grammatical errors doesn't necessarily entail rejection of an article, but can be a sufficient reason for such decision.
“Historical Languages” strives to be open to the readers worldwide. The article can be submitted and published both in Russian and in English, without translation. In any case the article is provided with annotation (in Russian) and abstracts (in English). The author can translate the annotation to another language (Russian and English) and then will be edited by the Journal's editors.
“Historical Courier” keeps up with the times and prefers to publish illustrated articles. The illustration's description must specify whether it is taken from a physical or digital collection.
The Journal doesn't publish copyrighted illustrations without permission from the rights holders.
In case of conflict with rights holders the Journal removes illustrations used without permission.
Articles are published free of charge and without payment of royalties. Each article is assigned a DOI, its full text is located on the Journal's web-site, in the system “Cyberleninka” (https://cyberleninka.ru) and in the RAS Electronic Library (https://elibrary.ru), and, if possible, in other collections and search systems.
Locating copies of articles on other web-sites (with reference to the original source) is also welcome.
