 DOI:10.31518/2618-9100-2018-1-8

The article focuses on Ivan Koloskov (1876–1932), one of the founders and leaders of temperance movement in Russia. Most significant sources for this article were investigation files of the teetotalers, mainly their “letters to authorities” in 1920s. Here the biography of I. N. Koloskov is viewed in broad historical context, and the main focus is on Bolshevik’s anti-religious policy concerning so-called “cultists”. The article also considers religious pacifism, vegetarianism and economic activity of teetotalers, as well as their recusancy when dealing with the government.
