The article discusses the structure, content and sources of texts of chapters devoted to the questions of liturgical singing in “Izumrud” (“Emerald”) – the polemical collection of the constant composition of istinno-pravoslavnye hristiane stranstvujushhie (True-Orthodox Christians Wandering). It was established that this collection was created in the 1920s in three volumes, of which only the first one had been known to researchers previously. The second and third volumes have been computer-typeset and posted on the Internet. The authenticity of their existence is proved by the presence of a manuscript collection stored in the fonds of the Institute of History of SB RAS (13/86) and representing a brief summary of the third volume. The chapters “About Chant” are contained in the first and third volumes. They are strictly structured, divided into articles denoting topics for discussion, and verses containing theses and their confirmations with citations from various sources. On the issue of liturgical singing compilers of collections selected a wide circle of sources. These are authoritative books published before the split of the Russian church and their Old Believers reprints, the writings of the Fathers of the Church and the teachings of the monks-Hesychasts, historical studies, popular literature and fiction. A significant part of the original sources were published in the post-reform period, including Russian-language texts in civil type. Part of the sources were created or directly prepared for printing by representatives of the Synodal Church. The circle of sources testifies to the breadth of interests of collectors of the library of Stranniky and the deep elaboration not only of the books of creed, but also of the works of their opponents. However, the “breadth of views” demonstrated by Stranniky is imaginary. From the extensive list of references, only those provisions are cited that do not contradict the Wanderers’ creed and are fully consistent with the Holy Scriptures.
