DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2021-3-11
The article examines the results of the analysis of the journals of military operations, operational reports, combat reports of the Red Army units on the front of the struggle against the 2nd Hungarian Army in the fall of 1942 – in January 1943, associated with the identification of the facts of the transition to the side of the Red Army of enemy soldiers. The ethnic composition of the defectors was determined, it was shown that they were most often soldiers of non-Hungarian nationality: Jews, Rusyns, Romanians, Serbs and others. The motivation for going over to the side of the Red Army was revealed – unwillingness to fight for incomprehensible goals, a difficult morale, a humiliated position in the army itself, and poor material support. The presence of studies on defectors from the 2nd Hungarian army was noted. Based on the sources, a chronicle of transitions is shown. An attempt was made to assess the transitions of the enemy soldiers as a form of spontaneous resistance, since the information of the defectors supplemented the intelligence of the Red Army units and on the basis of this information was delivered to the enemy troops.
