Works of the Decembrists and about the Decembrists in the Libraries of Siberia and the Far East in the Pre-Revolutionary Period

With the extensive historiography of the Decembrist movement, the study of the issue of the presence in the libraries of Siberia and the Far East in the pre-revolutionary period of works by their authorship and about them in the publications of researchers is not traced. An article based on 23 printed catalogs shows the presence of such literature in the collections of 19 reviewed libraries. It was divided into five departments: mainly − literature and history, sometimes − law, the history of literature, books for children and the people. The presence of editions of the Decembrists’ works of art and their epistolary and memoir heritage was revealed in them. It is noted that fiction was represented mainly by prose works of A.A. Bestuzhev-Marlinsky and poetic − K.F. Ryleeva, ego documents − memories, notes and letters of the Decembrists. There were published documents of the process in the case of the Decembrists. Fiction about Decembrists in library holdings was a rare phenomenon. Significantly more often there were essays on the history of social thought and social movements in Russia, including the Decembrist, as well as those directly devoted to the events of December 14, 1825, to participants in the movement. In addition to historical, there were literary works that analyzed the literary work of the Decembrists. Attention was drawn to the fact that all the catalogs reviewed were approved by censorship and printed with the permission of local governors, which indicates the legality of finding such literature in library collections.
