Memorialization of the Memory of the Decembrists in the 1920s (On the Example of the Yenisei Province and the Krasnoyarsk District)

The article is devoted to research and activities aimed at identifying burial sites and preserving the memory of the participants of the December 1825 uprising in St. Petersburg, who were exiled to Siberia, carried out in the 1920s by employees of the archives and museums of the Yenisei Governorate (since 1925, the Krasnoyarsk District). The main focus is on the activities of employees of the Yenisei Provincial Archives Bureau, local authorities, and interested parties who carried out targeted research to find information about the burial sites of the Decembrists and document their condition. The article examines specific cases of identifying the graves of famous figures of the movement, such as M.M. Spiridov, V.L. Davydov, E.I. Mozgalevsky, A.I. Yakubovich, and others, accompanied by detailed descriptions of the surviving memorial signs and eyewitness accounts. The article also highlights the contributions of P.M. Ustimovich, who made significant contributions to the study of V.L. Davydov's legacy, and the artist A.G. Zakovryashin, who drew public attention to the issue of preserving the graves of the Decembrists in Minusinsk. The work is based on archival sources, including materials from witness interviews, drawings, plans, and descriptions of tombstones that record cultural heritage sites that have since been lost. The study demonstrates the importance of local history initiatives in the first quarter of the 20th century in preserving the historical memory of the Decembrist political movement and highlights the need for further research in identifying monuments and organizing events to commemorate historical figures.
