The article is devoted to the mortality rate of the rear population of the RSFSR in 1941−1945. On the materials of the rear regions of the RSFSR, the pecularities of the mortality rate of the rear population are determined and given. During the Great Patriotic War, these pecularities were reflected in the structural and non-structural characteristics of the demographic process. After determining the mortality trends of the population of the RSFSR and its regions on the eve of the war, the article details on the characterization of its features in 1941−1945. The presence of characteristic stages of mortality (from June 1941 to the autumn of 1942 an increase in the mortality rate was determined, while from the autumn of 1942 to the spring of 1945 the mortality rate was decreasing). Differences in the dynamics of mortality of urban (a sharp increase and a gradual decrease in the mortality rate) and rural population (protracted nature of negative trends) are revealed. Seasonal mortality rates included an increase in the number of deaths in all months in the first phase, with elevated indicators being prevalent in winter and summer and uncharacteristic in spring, and an increase in the mortality rate in the summer of 1944 in the second stage). It is determined that changes in age-related mortality rates were mainly due to changes in mortality of infants and children under 5 years of age. Furthermore, it indicates the predominance of male mortality with an increase in specific gravity during the studied period. On the example of certain rear regions of the RSFSR (mainly the Volga-Vyatka region, the Urals and Siberia), some specificity in the characteristics of mortality is presented, and the causes and factors contributing to this are determined.
