The article examines the stages of formation and development of the scientific and educational model “Phystech System”. Originated as an independent idea in the 1930s. in response to the “gap” between the sectors of industry and higher education, it was realized through symbiosis with Moscow State University and gained institutional independence at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. In the 1950s, the “Phystech System” was an integral structure with strictly developed goals and principles, functions aimed at bringing higher education closer to the scientific and industrial sector in the physical and technical fields, which made it an exemplary element within the framework of the mobilization paradigm. Thus, the argument for its expansion became the starting point for initiating the creation of a new university in Siberia in conjunction with a scientific center. The question of the possibilities and limits of both direct and modified transfer of the existing educational model to Novosibirsk State University in the 1960s is considered. While maintaining the basic principles, a new goal was identified, due to the current demands of the development of science and industry, which led to an expansion of functions. This modification later led to the emergence of an independent model of a research university.
