The purpose of the article is to identify and substantiate the features of the health-saving behavior of the population of the Siberian Cossack army and the organization of medical care on the military territory at the end of the imperial period. The works of historians are characterized, which reflect certain aspects of the activities of medical institutions on the military territory, the appeals of the Cossack and non-Cossack population to traditional medicine, the organization of health care in the Siberian Cossack army as a whole. Groups of historical sources (legislative acts, clerical documentation, journalistic publications, medico-topological) are identified, the possibilities of their application within the framework of the stated topic of work are disclosed. The key factors that had an impact on the development of the health care system in the military territory (unfavorable climate, high prevalence of epidemic diseases among the population of the army, unwillingness of many Cossacks to be treated in hospitals) are characterized. The peculiarities of the activities of healthcare organizations on the territory of the Siberian Cossack army are revealed, the main problems that medical workers had to face (distrust on the part of the military population, the popularity of traditional medicine, long distances between settlements of the military territory, the lack of medical institutions and doctors) are substantiated. The dynamics of the network of medical institutions, the number of doctors and the share of medical workers in the population of the army are traced. The conclusion is made about the consequences of improving the health care system on the territory of the Siberian Cossack army (reducing mortality, earlier detection of diseases, especially among representatives of the Cossack population, increasing the confidence of the Cossacks in official medicine).
