Demographic Development of Gorno-Altaisk in 1928–2020
DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2023-4-14
The main directions of the demographic development of Gorno-Altaisk in the conditions of delayed urbanization of the region are analyzed on the basis of official statistics. The problem of the sources of population formation is investigated. The role of migration as the main component of the population dynamics of Gorno-Altaisk is proven by the analysis of archival materials, population census data and information presented on the official website of the Federal State Statistics Service. Periodization of the demographic modernization of the city, the lower chronological boundary of which is marked by the 1950s, is proposed. The conclusion is made about the unfavorable vector of demographic development of the city in recent years, associated with the decrease in birth rate and increase in mortality. The characteristics of marriage and divorce rates are given, and the influence of the sex and age composition of the city population on their dynamics is considered. The key factors of the transformation of the demographic structure of Gorno-Altaisk in the period under review were both external circumstances associated with deep social upheavals (the Great Patriotic War, the collapse of the USSR, the socio-economic crisis of the 1990s) and the specifics of the economic development of the city, as well as the logic of demographic modernization, accompanied by a decrease in birth rate and mortality. It is shown that in comparison with small Siberian towns, the age structure of the capital of the Altai Republic is relatively optimal.
