DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2023-3-11
The article, based on a number of issues for different years, characterizes the most interesting Russian-language periodical in China at the turn of the second or third decades of the 20th, the ‘News of the Public Council of the Russian Concession in Hankou’. It is regarded as a little-known source on the history of Russians in the country. In general, this history, as well as the history of the Russian Concession in Hankou, was reflected on the pages of scientific and popular science publications. The Hankou periodicals have not become the object of close attention and have not received serious coverage in research today. There are only a few mentions. In the publications one can find references to the surviving issues of the ‘News of the Public Council of the Russian Concession in Hankou’ in the National Library of the Czech Republic and the Museum of Russian Culture in San Francisco. At the same time, a number of issues are stored in the funds of the State Archives of the Russian Federation. ‘News’ was not the only Russian-language periodical, but they went out of print for a relatively long time, from 1917 to 1924. Their pages reflected the most diverse issues of the life of the Russian Concession of Hankou. These were the official information of the Consulate General of the Russian Empire in Hankou, the Public Council of the Concession, a chronicle of events, various popular materials. News published the minutes of the meetings of the Public Council, which had previously been published independently and distributed throughout the Russian Concession. An analysis of the publications of a number of issues of the ‘News of the Public Council of the Russian Concession in Hankou’ allows us to say that the publication provides very interesting material on the history of the Concession. Some materials confirm known facts, while others give new, previously unknown information. At the same time, further work is required to identify and analyze all issues of the named edition.
