The artocle summarizes the findings of the studies in the history of armed uprisings and rebel movements in Kazakhstan in 1929–1931 based on the analysis of the research literature published in 1930–2001. The books, articles and reports of 2001–2021 on the topic are analyzed by characterizing their sources and structure, describing the content of chapters and sections, determining their scientific novelty and contribution to the historiography of the problem. The goals and objectives of the study include, first of all, understanding the significance of the works under consideration for the progressive development of the historiography of the problem, enriching insights into the phenomena and processes that took place in the 1920s and early 1930s in Soviet Kazakhstan. The content of the works shows the directions of research interests, the vectors of which are characterized by different values. The novelty of the study is in the definition of existing approaches to the nature of armed uprisings and insurrectionary movements in 1929–1931. The research results are that the analysis of studies allows us to present the qualitative characteristics of the latest published works on the history of peasant armed uprisings and, on this basis, to formulate tasks aimed at achieving a qualitatively new level of this problem historiography development that meets the needs of historical science and society as a whole. The author comes to the conclusion that the literature available today, being the result of only a partial discovery and introduction into scientific circulation of historical sources deposited as a result of the activities of the security agencies (OGPU), is not able to solve the problem of forming a complete and comprehensive scientific view of the history of armed uprisings and rebel movements of the period 1929–1931 in Kazakhstan.
