Soviet Prisoners of War in the French Resistance Movement. Research Perspectives

This article is a brief contribution to the study of the history of the (former) Soviet prisoners of war in the French Resistance Movement. A number of examples presented in this article traces the path of former Soviet prisoners of war as part of the French Resistance movement and the Western allies. In particular, the article covers the circumstances such as captivity, collaboration with the German occupation forces, escape, interrogation and the struggle on the partisans or Western allies’ side, as well as the consequences of the end of the war and repatriation. The article concludes with a brief overview of the prospects for further research on this topic, with particular emphasis on open research questions and the structural problems for research. As a result, the article will demonstrate that France deserves special attention in the study of the history of Soviet prisoners of war among the countries of Western Europe. The article was written using materials from the Historical Service of the French Ministry of Defence in Vincennes and the Historical Service of the French Ministry of Defence / Archive department of victims of modern conflicts in Caen.
