 DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2021-2-3

The scientific heritage in the academic institutions of Buryatia is a complex of archival, library and museum collections. It is equally the result of research from past years and a source for new research. In this case, the personality of the scientist is of particular importance, since any scientific work is of an author’s character. Working with the scientific heritage includes its preservation and use. Institutionalized forms of preservation of the scientific heritage of Buryatia – personal archival fonds of the Center for Oriental Manuscripts and Xlographs of the IMBT SB RAS, memorial libraries in the COMX IMBT SB RAS and the Central Scientific Library of the Buryat Scientific Center SB RAS, the herbarium of the Institute of General and Experimental Biology SB RAS, archaeological collections in the IMBT SB RAS and the Museum of the Buryat Scientific Center SB RAS, the geological, biological and paleontological collections of the Museum BSC SB RAS are permanent and developing. Memorial plaques and busts of scientists have been added to them in recent years, designed to maintain and awaken interest in historical memory. Forms of updating the scientific heritage – commemorative publications, museum and book exhibitions, dedication of scientific events to the memory of outstanding scientists, are also traditional for scientific culture. An analysis of the current practice allows us to speak about the active interest of the scientific community in its heritage, which is used to develop social ties and manifest its own identity, as well as a source base for new investigations.
