The Fates of Soviet War Prisoners – Members of the European Resistance Movement
DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2021-3-18
In the article, on the basis on archive documents, the fate of many Soviet prisoners of war – participants in the Resistance movement in European countries is shown. The motives of the Soviet soldiers captured by the Wehrmacht, according to which they joined the national formations and legions, are considered. The Soviet normative-legal acts of the war and post-war times were investigated, on the basis on which the bodies of SMERSH and the UNKVD – MVD carried out filtration of Soviet prisoners of war in check-filtration camps and in special settlements. Regardless of military merit, all citizens of the USSR who were tested in testing and filtration camps (PFL) for service in the “Vlasov” units, national legions (if they did not take part in battles against the Soviet army or partisans) were sent to a special settlement for a period of six years. The author comes to the conclusion that participation in the European Resistance movement was not a reason for being released from the special settlement. The article was written on the basis on documents from the State Archive of the Russian Federation (GARF), the Russian State Archive of Social and Political History (RGASPI), as well as the Archive of the Information Center of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the Kemerovo Region (Department of Archival Information and Rehabilitation).
