At the early 1880s Altai appeared the place of sharp clashes between old-dwellers and peasant migrants. The most famous of these conflicts occurred in the early 1880s in the village of Novo-Tyryshkino. In the document published it is described by the chairman of the Tomsk province council N.N. Petukhov. He was one of the most active and most experienced officials of the Tomsk province, who personally met with peasants at Novo- Tyryshkino trying to find a way to settle the conflict. His description allows us to see behind a particular case some common problems that influenced the course and results of the Great Siberian migration. First of all, it is the phenomenon known in demographic science as the chain migration. This makes it possible to compare the Great Siberian migration of the second half of the late Russian empire with other large migrations of different epochs.
