 DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2019-6-14

The article characterizes settlement maps of Siberia as sources of visual information and object of bibliographical study. They are used as a source of information for settlement net modeling in the region during the pre-revolution and colonization periods of Russian history. The authors note that these materials had been formed before mass resettlement to Siberia. Also, methods of work with mapping in school lessons and university tutorials are given in the article. The authors also explain the need for using these maps not only for educational purpose at school but with purposes of studying the Siberian history during different periods of history. The mapping materials, used in the courses “The History of Siberia”, “The History of Novosibirsk Oblast (Region)”, are characterized. The samples of lesson plans and out-of-school activities are offered. The system of questions and tasks on visual information analysis focuses on the development of students’ abilities to analyze the map in order to retrieve useful information.
