 DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2025-1-20

The article analyzes the activities of the outstanding culturologist Professor V.L. Soskin (1925−2021) on the formation of a scientific school since the early 1970s. The rapidly developing Novosibirsk Scientific Center has created favorable conditions for this. Novosibirsk University (NSU) has been preparing young humanities specialists with research skills since 1962. The study revealed that it was NSU graduates who formed the core of the scientific school of Professor V.L. Soskin. Under his leadership, graduates of Siberian universities also prepared their dissertation research. If in the 1970s since the history of culture and the intelligentsia was at the center of research problems, the 1980s saw the emergence of a scientific direction for the study of the history of science and education as an integral part of the history of culture. The methodological justification for the need to study science and education as a social institution made it possible to train personnel in a new paradigm. Through the many years of efforts of Professor V.L. Soskin and his students, the historiographical content was enriched by the works of Siberian scientists. The main components of the scientific and educational complex of the Siberian region have been systematically studied. Topics such as scientific policy and management, a network of institutions, forms of training specialists, interaction between science and production, etc. continue to be replenished with new research topics. Among the directions of the 21st century one can note the study of repressive policies towards scientists during the Soviet period, the adaptation of the scientific community to mobilization practices, etc., which expands the understanding of the interaction between science and society at a certain historical stage. In the modern period, continuity in the development of scientific directions initiated by Professor Soskin is ensured by his numerous students and followers.
