The article examines the activities of the Decembrists who were exiled to settlement in Yalutorovsk from 1829 to 1856. Through the prism of moral qualities of political exiles, the article evaluetes of their influence on the future development of the city of Yalutorovsk is given. The legacy of the Decembrists is an important component of the historical appearance of Yalutorovsk. This provision is fixed at the federal level by the inclusion of Yalutorovsk in 1970 in the list of historical cities. 4 monuments of federal significance are directly related to the Decembrists - these are the houses of the Decembrists M.I. Muravyov-Apostol and I.D. Yakushkin, the grave of the Decembrist A.V. Entaltseva and the first all-class school for girls in Siberia. Streets, a square, a school and a birch grove, which is a natural monument of regional significance, are named after nine political exiles in the city. In memory of the Decembrists in Yalutorovsk, the historical and cultural festival “Decembrist Evenings” has been held since 1988, which arouses constant interest among a wide audience: from local historians to the descendants of Decembrists and specialists in Decembrist studies. The Yalutorovskaya colony of the Decembrists was considered one of the largest and most united in Siberia. The local population, initially hostile to them, gradually changed their attitude. Their education and desire to serve for the good of society earned them respect. The work attempts to show how the activities of the Decembrists influenced the cultural and historical development of the small Siberian city of Yalutorovsk.
