The theme “Decembrists” is an important page in the history of Transbaikalia. Educated people, some of the best representatives of their generation, paid a high price for trying to transform the Russian Empire. The mining of ore in Gorny Zerentuy and Blagodatsky mines, the casemates of the Chita prison and the prison in the Petrovsky Zavod did not break their spirit. 85 Decembrists, who were in hard labor in Chita from 1827 to 1830, retained an interest in life and a high sense of self-esteem. The memory of them is carefully preserved by the Decembrist Museum. The article discusses the history of the Decembrist Museum in Chita. The main directions of the Museum’s work at the present time were highlighted.
