An analytical note from the statistics department of the Kemerovo region is being introduced into scientific circulation. It analyzed the results of the economic and financial activities of Kuzbass collective farms for 1970. The content of the note is important for understanding the specifics of the development of the agricultural sector of the region’s economy during the Eighth Five-Year Plan (1966–1970), which was characterized by high rates of increase in agricultural production. The text of the document notes the generally successful production results of the region’s collective farms for the year. The production plan for grain, milk, and meat was exceeded. Cash income of collective farms increased by 1.3 times, profit – by 2.6 times. The drafters of the note paid considerable attention to the identified shortcomings in the activities of collective farms. Lagging sectors of agriculture included potato growing, vegetable growing, and feed production. Mechanization of production processes in livestock farming was poorly implemented. But the most significant problem of agricultural production was the high cost of agricultural products. It turned out to be higher than planned for all products. In the analytical article preceding the publication of the document, it was concluded that the increasing cost of agricultural production was characteristic not only of collective farms, but also of other categories of farms and was recorded in all regions of the USSR without exception. The basic factor for this was the increasing scale of use of agricultural intensification means. The expenses of state and collective farms increased accordingly. At the same time, the rate of increase in agricultural production tended to decrease. It was never possible to repeat the success of the Eighth Five-Year Plan in the USSR.
