Dynamics of Livestock Breeding Development in Krasnoyarsk Krai in 1953–1964

The relevance of the article is conditioned by the necessity to revise the historical experience of past attempts of transformations in the field of agriculture in the conditions of increasing geopolitical uncertainty and the need to strengthen the product sovereignty of the Russian Federation. The scientific novelty of the study is due to the relative understudy of this topic in modern historiography and the introduction of new previously unused sources. During the period of N.S. Khrushchev’s leadership of the country, a huge number of various transformations were carried out, including in the field of animal husbandry. In the second half of the twentieth century, in the conditions of a sharp intensive growth of the urban population and reduction of the rural population, the threat of food supply to cities was created. Against the background of gradual dying out of the previously existing agrarian system in the whole country, and Krasnoyarsk Krai was searching for new ways of agricultural development, capable of “overtaking and overtaking America in meat and milk production”. As of 1953 the cattle breeding in Krasnoyarsk region was relatively underdeveloped. Gradually there were attempts to solve the existing problems in the industry, the number of herds was growing. Nevertheless, the existing problems in the industry could not be solved completely. The development was mainly extensive, the production of livestock products did not keep pace with the growth of population needs, and the industry itself remained deeply unprofitable.
