The Main Classes of Causes of Death of the Population of the RSFSR in the 1970s and 1980s

Based on archival and published mainly statistical data, the article shows that in the 1970s and 1980s, a new type of mortality spread in the RSFSR under the conditions of epidemiological transition. This type of mortality was determined by a combination of endogenous, exogenous and quasi-endogenous factors, with endogenous factors playing a leading role. The widespread spread of modern diseases, their negative impact on human health in general, and an increase in mortality from these diseases actualizes the study of changes in the structure of causes of death of the population of the RSFSR. The main classes of causes of death of the population of the RSFSR are studied. The highest mortality rate was from diseases of the circulatory system. The mortality rates of the population from malignant neoplasms increased. The death rate of the population increased from accidents, poisoning and injuries related to deaths. It is also shown to decrease in the conditions of active struggle against drunkenness and alcoholism. In the 1970s and 1980s, traditional diseases (respiratory, digestive, infectious and parasitic) and causes of death from such diseases persisted in the RSFSR. The mortality rate from traditional diseases, especially from infectious and parasitic diseases, has been decreasing. In the years under study, the mortality rate of the population decreased from such a dangerous disease as tuberculosis, including respiratory organs. The age composition of those who died from the main causes of death is considered. The complexity of the epidemiological situation in the RSFSR is emphasized, primarily due to the emergence of a new dangerous human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). In the 1970s and 1980s in the RSFSR, diseases of the circulatory system, malignant neoplasms, as well as accidents, poisoning and injuries became the leading causes of death of the population. All this corresponded to the epidemiological transition. Attention is drawn to the natural nature of changes in the causes of death of the population. The leading classes of causes of death increased the overall mortality rate, especially among the male population, including those of working age.
