The problem of the development of mortality in Russia in post-Soviet times, the nature and degree of influence of radical reforms of the 1990–2000s on it is considered on the example of the rural population of the Krasnoyarsk Territory. Based on state statistics, the stages of mortality, the dynamics of the structure of causes, its features in the main socio-demographic groups of the population are analyzed, general and specific (Siberian and rural) features are identified, and the current state is assessed. The processes in the villages of the region are compared with similar ones in the Krasnoyarsk cities and villages of Russia as a whole. Long-term factors and specific reasons for strong changes in indicators in the time series of mortality and deviations from the Russian average parameters are identified. It was established that with the radical transformation of the Krasnoyarsk village, the nature of mortality in it did not change radically. The trends that emerged during the Soviet period developed in the same direction. The processes in the villages of the region followed a common course with similar ones in the cities of the region and rural areas of the Russian Federation as a whole, but more dynamically and had worse parameters. Mortality trends in the Krasnoyarsk village after 1991 are assessed as crisis. In its dynamics, 3 stages are distinguished, the boundaries of which are 2005 and 2020. The first stage began in the wake of increasing mortality since 1988 and reaching its highest point in 2005. It was marked by a sharp deterioration in all its characteristics. At the second stage, there was a gradual slow improvement in indicators. In 2020, it was interrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It introduced new factors into mortality trends. The Krasnoyarsk village has suffered heavier losses from the pandemic than the cities of the region and all of rural Russia, and is recovering from the crisis more slowly. The start of the special military operation in 2022 further aggravated the situation and made it difficult to predict.
