Economic Foundations of the Life of the Cossacks of the Three Rivers (China, 1920–1945)
DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2023-3-3
The article examines the Cossack emigration in China on the example of the Three Rivers. In the Three Rivers, emigrant Cossacks mastered various types of activities. They provided various kinds of services (for example, transportation), cultivated fishing, hunting, cattle breeding, various crafts. Emigrants from Transbaikalia and other Cossacks not only cultivated the fertile lands of China, but also played a major role in the development of medium and small industries, including processing of natural and agricultural raw materials. In addition, the emigrant Cossacks respected military service, as well as service in public and private institutions. Due to the peculiarities of the social organization and economic infrastructure, the emigrant Cossacks were able to adapt to the harsh local conditions in a relatively short time and arrange the life of their families in an unfamiliar territory. The economic infrastructure of the Cossacks and China was developing quite actively at that time, despite some problems caused by the situation in the country. The economic infrastructure of the Cossacks in the Three Rivers is based on the achievements of agriculture, crafts, cattle breeding and agriculture. Russian Russians recognize that the 1920s were a period of mass settlement of the Three Rivers by Russian Cossacks, who, by their way of life, stood out from the general Russian emigrant mass of China. There is no doubt that successful adaptation became possible thanks to centuries-old strong Cossack traditions in military and village administration, as well as commerce and agriculture.
