The article is devoted to the Russian monarchist newspaper “Shankhayskoye Novoe Vremya” (“The Shanghai New Times”). A comprehensive analysis of the content, political orientation, and attitude of the editorial board to world powers, local authorities, and other emigre organizations in Shanghai was carried out. The analysis of the editorial policy of the newspaper shows that from 1921 to 1925 the editor-in-chief, E.K. Gedroitz, had full control over the newspaper. Splits within the editorial board always led to a departure of those people who were opposed to the editor-in-chief’s policies. Under the pseudonyms Maria Zvezdich and Marsel Ferry, E.K. Gedroitz pursued a pro-monarchist policy in support of Nicholas Nikolaevich. At the same time, the editorial board welcomed the rise of the Italian Fascists and believed that for Russia too, fascism was a valuable method of restoring the monarchy. Close contact was established with Russian Fascist organisations in Europe. E.K. Gedroitz and the editorial board of “Shankhayskoye Novoe Vremya” were negatively disposed towards other Russian newspapers in Shanghai, and there were several splits within the editorial board during 1922–1925. The editorial board had an ambivalent attitude towards V.F. Grosse and the Bureau of Russian Affairs. However, after the liquidation of the Russian Affairs Bureau, E.K. Gedroitz stopped doubting the correctness of the actions of the former Consulate-General and began to fully support V.F. Grosse and his activities.
