The study objective is to reveal the effect of radical market reforms on the economy of Siberia, the features of its functioning under conditions of drastic restructuring of the country’s social system in the 1990s. The research is intended to expand the factual base of the topic to prepare generalizing scientific and historical works on the regional economic history in the post-Soviet period, which are few nowadays. The goal is achieved by analyzing the results of privatization in the region, developing the market and small business here, consumer goods production, agriculture, fuel and energy complex, metallurgy and mining, forestry and wood processing, engineering, transport, foreign trade, regional finance. The author concludes that the forced transition to the market and multi-structural structure had an extremely negative impact on the economy of Siberia. Manufacturers of consumer goods, primarily food products, had the hardest time. The main agriculture branches degraded quickly. Engineering was in crisis. Some of its high-tech areas survived in the military-industrial complex, which was coming into recession. The transport system development in Siberia has slowed down. The volumes of cargo and passenger traffic decreased. Non-ferrous metal smelting, diamond, oil and gas mining enterprises avoided deep crisis. The industry had a pronounced raw material orientation. The fuel and energy complex continued playing a significant role. Siberian economy began to play a smaller peart in the country’s economic system. A greater part of its resources was redistributed in favor of the western regions of Russia. The share of goods decreased and the portion of services rose in the structure of value added.
