 DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2022-2-14

The article is devoted to studying the biography and creative heritage of a person with difficult fate, whose life was divided in two parts by the revolution and civil war events – Irkutsk Orthodox writer, theologian and philosopher, teacher and public figure Mikhail Vasilyevich Odintsov. His personality, creativity and activities are just beginning to attract attention of historians and other specialists in the humanities. Based on the revealed sources (information on M.V. Odintsov’s life and work published on pages of Irkutsk Diocesan Bulletin, “Theological Bulletin” publications, materials of the family archive by M.V. Odintsov and his wife Maria Konstantinovna and others), the research reconstructs the writer’s biography; reveals published work; recreates the history of his dissertation on S. Kierkegaard, the Danish philosopher and theologian of the mid-19th century; represents his relationships with a scientific advisor prof. P.V. Tikhomirov. In the late 20th – early 21st centuries, several collections of documents and collective monographs were published on the history of large universities in the city of Irkutsk. Mikhail Vasilyevich’s teaching activities were associated with some of them: Irkutsk State University and Irkutsk Pedagogical Institute. These works provide background data on teachers, including M.V. Odintsov; publish some documents related to his biography; describe in brief his activities, which make it possible to highlight partially the Soviet period of life of a prominent figure in the East Siberia education. An appeal to the creative heritage of Mikhail Vasilyevich allows counting the Irkutsk philosopher as a Russian Silver Age author.
