Publicistic Works of Old Believers as a Mechanism for the Transmission of Political and Moral Ideas (Based on the Materials of the Collection of Manuscripts of the Institute of History SB RAS)

Based on the material of the Collection of Handwritten and Old Printed Works, the article discusses the problem of the way of transmitting political and moral ideas to like-minded Old Believers. The adherents of the old belif decisively created a huge number of polemical, journalistic and epistolary works, in which they testified to the inviolability of national church traditions. One of the main themes in the Old Believer literature is especially noted – the theme of the martyrdom of the first defenders of ancient piety, the personal moment is skillfully brought into general discussions about the atrocities of the authorities, mass repression and mass martyrdom of Russian people, true Christians who refused to accept church reform and violate the traditions of Russian Orthodoxy. An appeal to their creative heritage provided an opportunity to conclude that the publicistic work of the leaders of the first generation of Old Believers for three centuries ensures the continuity of their political and moral ideas, which formed the platform of the Old Believer ideology and writing. The article makes an attempt to determine the degree of influence of intellectual leaders on their like-minded people, to reveal the nature of the impact of their socially significant and socially recognized works on the readers of future generations.
