History of Emotions as a Method of Study the History of the Civil War in Siberia
DOI: 10.31518/2618-9100-2021-6-18
The article is devoted to consideration of concepts of the history of emotions and the potential for their inclusion in the study of the Civil War in Russia. Despite the fact that researchers have already attempted to study the emotional component of the conflict, thus far there are no works based on the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the history of emotions. The paper briefly describes the views of W. Reddy and B. Rosenwein, who not only rethought the concept of “emotion” in an interdisciplinary mode, filling it with cognitive content, but also developed a valid and convincingly substantiated conceptual apparatus in concrete historical studies. In addition, the works of P. and K. Sterns, M. Scheer are noted, the theoretical provisions of which also occupy a significant place in the general number of conceptual provisions developed in the field. The article also suggests the possibility of examining the information and propaganda activities of governments during the Civil War from the perspective of emotionally oriented practices. A number of questions of the emotional orientation of possible studies of confrontation are put forward. As a result, the author makes the assumption that the history of emotions expands the field of research questions, opens up scope for additional interpretation of military events. Nevertheless, the author is convinced that the history of emotion should contribute to a deeper understanding of historical processes and periods, and not become a separate discipline that replaces general history.
