“Chronicle” of the Culture of the Yanzhao Civilization in the Museum of the Hebei Province (China)

The paper presents information about the origin of the name of the Yanzhao region, its geographical conditions, the centuries-old history of development, which has both general Chinese features and its own characteristics. It reflects the achievements of the region in architecture, natural sciences, humanities, agriculture, crafts, and art, which contribute to the development of China as a whole. The author focuses on the exhibitions in the Museum of Hebei Province, dedicated to the history and culture of Yanzhao. A detailed description of the nine permanent exhibition halls and showrooms of the museum is given: “Hebei in the Stone Age”, “The Hebei civilization in the Shang period (about 1600–1028 BC)”, “The History of Yangzhao”, “Heroes of the warring states – the ancient kingdom of Zhongshan (about 475–221 BC)”, “About the great tomb of the Han Dynasty (206–220 BC)”, “Stone sculptures in Quyang County”, “Mural in the dynasty Beizhao” (386–581), “Famous ancient potteries and valuable porcelain products”, “Heroes of Hebei in the 14 years War of Resistance against Japan”. Unique collections and objects of national and world historical and cultural significance are highlighted. Attention is drawn to innovative ways of reflecting regional history and culture using modern digital technologies, 3D-modeling. The significance of the peculiar culture of Yanzhao, its place in the development of Chinese civilization, is evaluated, and the important role of the Museum of Hebei Province in preserving and presenting the regional historical and cultural heritage and identity is emphasized.
