The article analyzes the relationship between migration and fertility in the urban area of the Krasnoyarsk region in the 1960–1980s, based on the existing scientific groundwork. The main sources are published and unpublished population statistics. The paper considers various hypotheses of the effect of migration on fertility: adaptation, socialization, selectivity, and the gap; describes the historical context of the studied processes. The author studies general indicators of the contribution of migration to the formation of the urban population of the region over the last thirty years of the Soviet period, as well as its impact on the gender and age structure. It was revealed that migration affected fertility primarily through the structural factor, but did not have a significant, provable effect on reproductive behavior. It is proved that in the 1960s the overall fertility rate decreased mainly due to a decrease in age-specific fertility rates, and in the 1970s its growth was mainly due to a change in the age structure of the population with a decrease in the proportion of women of reproductive age. In the 1980s a decrease in the overall coefficient was connected with a structural factor. The obtained results indirectly confirm the adaptation hypothesis, while the hypotheses of socialization, selectivity, and gap have not been confirmed in the course of the study. The conclusion was made that migration has not changed the universal laws of demographic development, despite a definite effect on fertility through the structural factor and reproductive behavior of citizens, that is, the transition of the urban population to the modern type of reproduction.
