Active migration processes change the picture of demographic dynamics in industrial centers, but in historical towns the migration does not have such an impact. Consider the dynamics of the data used in estimating the demographic transition during the period between the 1959 and 1979 censuses, on the materials of three historical towns of the Angara-Yenisei region: Yeniseisk, Minusinsk and Nizhneudinsk. When referring to the dynamics of population, primarily against the background of the rapid growth in the number of residents of regional centers (Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk) and young industrial towns (Bratsk, Divnogorsk), the stability of the population of small historical towns is noticeable. The policy of centralization and industrialization has a stronger influence on the dynamics of numbers than the economic and geographical position. Thus, the northern Yeniseisk and Kirensk, show a higher population growth than the southern Minusinsk and Nizhneudinsk located on the Trans-Siberian highway. General processes of fertility decline in the 1960s –1970s were influenced by the consequences of the Great Patriotic War and the demographic transition that has been observed in the region since the mid-1970s. They have an impact on small historical cities, as well as others. Of great importance is the policy of priorities. But there is a certain local specificity. Historic towns initially experienced higher birth and death rates. Then fertility rates started declining and by 1980 equaled to the average for the region. Mortality rates, on the contrary, are growing and remain higher, which is not typical for the third stage of the demographic transition. The departure of young people from cities during the period under review is compensated by the influx from rural areas, so the migration exchange has mostly positive indicators, and there is no noticeable aging of the population of historical cities, although the proportionof older people is slightly higher. At the same time, each town has its own characteristics. For example, in Minusinsk, the proportion of seniors is much larger, and this indicator tended to increase. It can be assumed that the reason is more favorable natural conditions that contribute to longevity.
