Ivan Dmitrievich Yakushkin and Princess Natalya Dmitrievna Shcherbatova: to the Prehistory of the Moscow Conspiracy of 1817

 The article is devoted to an important period of I.D. Yakushkin’s biography, preceding the events of the Moscow conspiracy of the Decembrists in 1817. The article presents the reasons why I.D. Yakushkin volunteered to kill the emperor. The personal crisis of the Decembrist of the period of 1817, which was the result of his unhappy love for Princess N.D. Shcherbatova. The personal context that led Yakushkin to make a radical political decision has been studied. The article examines in detail the severe personal crisis of the Decembrist of the period of 1817, restores the deep personal context, on the basis of which Yakushkin made a radical political step, which contradicted his political views, determines the ratio of the two components (personal and social) in the behavior of I.D. Yakushkin as a political figure. Along with political motives, the presence of the deepest personal connotation is proved, thus, personal drama becomes a powerful catalyst for a political decision. In the article based on a detailed analysis of epistolary sources, also an attempt was made to characterize the personality of N.D. Shcherbatova, her relationship with I.D. Yakushkin and her role in the destiny of the Decembrist. A detailed reconstruction of the image of one of the famous women durning the Pushkin’s era, her worldview and behavior stereotype in the society and in the family provides the interesting material for characterizing the history of women of the 19th century, their true importance and influence in society.
